Today, U.S. Congressman Michael McCaul, chairman emeritus of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, commented on President Trump's recent executive orders aimed at increasing pressure on Iran and halting U.S. funding for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).

"President Trump’s maximum pressure campaign nearly bled Iran dry in 2020 — leaving them with extremely few resources to fuel their nuclear program and destabilizing activities. This EO made clear he’s prepared to do it again," McCaul stated.

He also expressed approval of the decision to stop U.S. funding to UNRWA, citing concerns over alleged anti-Israel bias and connections to terrorism. "I’m also pleased he once again halted U.S. funding to UNRWA, which has demonstrated a long-standing anti-Israel bias and deeply concerning terrorism ties," he said.

McCaul referred to accusations against UNRWA employees who allegedly participated in Hamas' attack on Israel on October 7 and reports suggesting that UNRWA structures have been used by Hamas for various activities.

"The U.S. will once again put American interests first, stand up to the Iranian regime, and ensure no one messes with our ally, Israel," McCaul concluded.

Previously, as chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, McCaul passed legislation through his committee aimed at halting U.S. funding for UNRWA. He also addressed allegations linking UNRWA to Hamas and called for testimony from its commissioner-general.

Additionally, McCaul worked against Iranian state-sponsored terrorism by enacting significant sanctions related to missile and drone technology through his FIGHT Crime Act. His resolution supporting Israel after the October 7 incident gained significant support.
