On February 26, 2025, the Austin Police Department (APD) responded to an aggravated robbery at Capital Chevrolet on the 6200 block of S IH-35 Frontage Road. The incident occurred around 5 p.m. when a suspect pointed a handgun at an employee and stole a new Chevrolet Equinox.
APD's Patrol resources, along with the Air Unit, Robbery Unit, and Violent Crimes Task Force (VCTF), were quickly involved in the investigation. The stolen vehicle was tracked to a transit station in East Austin within approximately 45 minutes. VCTF officers discreetly followed the vehicle to Walmart at 710 East Ben White Service Road Westbound, where they arrested the suspect without incident. The suspect was identified as Kaynin Jackson.
During a search of the stolen vehicle, officers found a handwritten note that appeared intended for use in a bank robbery. This arrest was achieved through coordinated efforts among various APD units within an hour and a half of the initial emergency call.
