AUSTIN, Texas - The City of Austin’s Homeless Strategy Office and Trinity Center are partnering to extend the Trinity Center’s hours so people experiencing homelessness can find reprieve during the hottest parts of the day. Located at 304 E. 7th Street within St. David’s Church, the cooling center operates Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., until September 30, 2024. Extended hours may be available during periods of Excessive Heat Warnings.
The City of Austin Parks and Recreation Department and Capital Delivery Services are advancing the Asian American Resource Center (AARC) with three projects: adding movable wall partitions to the ballroom, constructing a new pavilion, and implementing elements of the Watershed Protection Department’s AARC/Rutherford Stormwater Improvements affecting Little Walnut Creek.

On June 21, 2024, at approximately 4:06 p.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a call reporting a deceased person in the 2600 block of Metcalfe Road. The caller indicated they had seen what appeared to be a deceased individual at this location. Upon arrival, officers found an obviously deceased female in an abandoned house. The victim was later identified as Alyssa Ann Rivera, a Hispanic female born on December 1, 1989. She was pronounced dead shortly after being discovered.
On Sunday, August 11, 2024, at approximately 8:34 a.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers were dispatched to a single-vehicle crash in the 7000 block of South IH 35 northbound. The driver and a passenger traveling in the vehicle were both pronounced deceased at the scene.

On Thursday, August 8, 2024, at approximately 8:39 a.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a crash involving a vehicle and two pedestrians at the intersection of Hillview Road and Greenlee Drive. One of the pedestrians, identified as Allison Baker, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The second pedestrian was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the vehicle remained on the scene, was not injured or impaired, and is cooperating with the investigation.
