APD 147th Academy Graduates New Officers

The Austin Police Department (APD) will welcome 33 new officers during a graduation ceremony at 6 p.m. on Friday, May 19, 2023. The Commencement ceremony for the 147th Cadet Class will take place at Bannockburn Church - 7100 Brodie Ln, Austin, TX 78745. It will broadcast live on ATXN, the City of Austin government access channel.

The 147th graduating cadets will be commissioned during the ceremony after completing a demanding 32-week training program. The cadet classes' training included legal issues, driving, crisis intervention training, community policing, leadership, defensive tactics, and physical fitness.

During the ceremony, Chief of Police Joseph Chacon will administer the Oath of Office to the cadets. Various awards highlighting dedication and achievement by individual cadets will be presented during the ceremony.

Media will have a designated location throughout the ceremony.

Media is invited to conduct interviews prior to the ceremony at Bannockburn Church. Cadets will be available to interview between 5:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., conditions permitting. Chief of Police Joseph Chacon will be available for an interview at 5:30 p.m.
