Austin's three largest animal shelters are joining forces for their “300 Homes” adoption promotion by asking the community to come together and adopt a dog or cat. The goal of the partnership, which kicks off on Saturday, May 27, and runs until June 4, is to find loving homes for 300 animals in just one week.

During this special promotion, all adoption fees will be waived for most animals at Austin Pets Alive!, Austin Humane Society, and Austin Animal Center. The waived fees aim to encourage more people to provide a second chance to as many animals as possible. The savings help families purchase all the supplies needed to give their new pet a cozy home. 

“We're grateful for the unwavering support and dedication of the people of Austin,” says Dr. Ellen Jefferson, President and CEO of APA!. “As our vibrant city grows daily, we invite Austinites to encourage new residents to consider adopting a pet. By opening their hearts and homes to these animals in need, we can continue to make Austin the safest city for companion animals in the country.”

The animal shelter representatives agree that there are too many animals–especially medium and large dogs in local shelters. “AAC is experiencing a space crisis with dozens of dogs still in temporary crates,” says Don Bland, Chief Animal Services Officer at Austin Animal Center. “Our hope is that this joint promotion can clear up space in our local shelters and help hundreds of animals find homes. We are grateful to APA! and AHS for committing to pull additional dogs from AAC as they clear space during the “300 Homes” adoption promotion.” 

“The Austin Humane Society is excited to be partnering once again with our friends from Austin Animal Center and Austin Pets Alive! for this adoption promotion.” says Sarah Hammel, Director of Community Support Programs at AHS, “It truly takes a village to keep Austin the best No Kill city in the nation. By working together, our three organizations hope to Keep Austin Adopting well into the future!”

Each of the animal shelters has its hours of operation and adoption specials this week: 

Austin Humane Society will offer waived adoption fees for animals six months and older. AHS is open from noon to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday at 124 W Anderson Ln., Austin, TX 78752. 

Austin Animal Center will offer waived adoption fees for all animals. AAC is open for walk-in adoptions from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily at 7201 Levander Loop Bldg. A, Austin, TX 78702

Austin Pets Alive! will offer waived adoption fees for all animals at any location during the promotion. Spay/neuter deposits still apply. APA! is open from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. daily. People can visit the main location at 1156 W Cesar Chavez St, Austin, TX 78703, or the Tarrytown Adoption Center (Small Dogs and Cattery) at 3118 Windsor Rd, Austin, TX 78703. 

For those interested in adopting, you can visit any of the three shelters during business hours between Saturday, May 27, and June 4. However, all three organizations will be closed on May 29 in observance of Memorial Day.
