On November 1, 2024, Austin Police Department officers responded to a shooting incident at Michelobos Nightclub on East Braker Lane. The call came in at approximately 1:43 a.m., reporting two males with critical gunshot wounds. Upon arrival, officers found Tyler Cochran and Clayton Taitague injured by gunfire. Cochran was declared dead at the scene shortly after, while Taitague was taken to a hospital where he remains in critical but stable condition.
The investigation revealed that an argument between Cochran and Taitague escalated into violence. During the altercation, Taitague obtained a firearm and shot Cochran. A security employee at Michelobos Sports Bar witnessed the event and subsequently shot Taitague.
Taitague is under arrest and faces charges of First Degree Murder once released from medical care.
Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the Austin Police Department or submit tips anonymously through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program. A reward of up to $1,000 may be offered for information leading to an arrest.
This incident marks Austin's 56th homicide case of the year.
