The City of Austin and the Austin Veterans Parade Foundation are set to host the 69th annual Austin Veterans Day Parade on November 11, 2024. The event will begin at 9:30 a.m., with participants marching from the South Congress Avenue Bridge to the Texas State Capitol building.
This parade offers Austinites an opportunity to express their appreciation for veterans as community members and organizations take part in the procession. Following the parade, a memorial ceremony will be held at the south steps of the Capitol.
Attendees are advised that downtown traffic may be affected by street closures. To ease transportation concerns, carpooling is encouraged. Alternatively, visitors can use CapMetro or park outside downtown and access the parade route via Ann and Roy Butler hike-and-bike trail or CapMetro Bikeshare.
The Austin Police Department, Fire Department, and Travis County EMS are working together to ensure safety during the event. They recommend attendees "get vaccinated, use hand sanitizer, wash hands often and stay home if you feel sick." More information on vaccines can be found at vaccines.gov.
The Austin Veterans Parade Foundation (AVPF) consists of volunteers who honor service members through this annual event. They partner with the Austin Community Foundation to support its organization.
Additionally, special event permitting is facilitated by the Austin Center for Events (ACE), which collaborates with various city departments such as Public Health, Transportation and Public Works, Parks, Music, Police, Fire, EMS among others.
