Austin introduces finalists for parks director position

Community members are invited to meet the three finalists for the Austin Parks and Recreation Department Director position. The event is scheduled for Wednesday, November 13, at 6 p.m. at the Conley Guerrero Senior Center in Austin, Texas.

The role of the PARD Director involves overseeing department operations, programs, facilities, and staff. It requires leadership that aligns with both organizational and community goals. The event provides an opportunity for stakeholders to engage with candidates, ask questions during a moderated discussion, and give feedback to City Manager T.C. Broadnax.

The meeting will start at 6 p.m., with doors opening at 5:30 p.m. Free parking will be available, along with American Sign Language and Spanish interpretation services. Additional language services can be requested by calling specific numbers by November 12.

Jesús Aguirre brings over 25 years of experience in public education and parks and recreation leadership. He has held various roles from teaching to serving as chief state school officer in Washington DC. In Seattle, he led efforts to secure funding for park improvements and enhance system efficiency and equity. Aguirre has also served as CEO of Waterloo Greenway in Austin.

Robert Brent Dennis has extensive experience in public parks across several states including Ohio and California. As the current Director of Long Beach Parks, Recreation and Marine Department, he manages significant parkland areas and facilities. Dennis is recognized nationally for his contributions to park design and community service.

Angela Means currently serves as Interim Director of Austin's Parks and Recreation Department. With over 25 years in local government administration, she has expertise in operational oversight and financial management within various city departments both in Austin and San Diego.
