On November 13, 2024, at approximately 4:17 p.m., officers from the Austin Police Department (APD) responded to a reported stabbing incident at the C-Mart located on 7811 South 1st Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered an unidentified Hispanic male suffering from a chest puncture wound. The victim was transported to a local hospital and pronounced dead at 5:08 p.m.
Homicide detectives and crime scene specialists processed the location and interviewed witnesses. Their investigation revealed that Luis Marroquin, who was later arrested, knew the victim as they both worked as day laborers in the area. Earlier that day, Marroquin had encountered the victim at Home Depot while waiting for work. The two were seated next to each other in the store's parking lot when Marroquin allegedly stabbed the victim without provocation.
Officers detained Marroquin based on witness descriptions. He has been charged with first-degree murder and is currently held in Travis County jail.
