Austin Police apprehend seven suspects linked to crimes including carjackings

On January 14, 2025, the Austin Police Department (APD) concluded a crime spree involving multiple suspects. The group consisted of five juveniles and two adults identified as Javonni McDowell and Rashon Mosee. They were involved in auto thefts, violent carjackings, and business burglaries over two days beginning January 12.

A notable incident involved the carjacking of an on-duty security guard. The stolen vehicle and equipment were used in further carjackings. The suspects were apprehended without incident at approximately 1:15 a.m. on January 14, ending the threat to the community.

APD expressed gratitude to various units and agencies that assisted in capturing the suspects. These included several APD Patrol Sectors, APD’s Air and K-9 Units, the APD Robbery Unit, the Texas Department of Public Safety, and the Travis County Sheriff’s Office. According to APD, "These individuals were a clear and present danger to the community."

The investigation is ongoing with additional charges anticipated.
