Suspect arrested in connection to fatal hit-and-run in Austin

Austin Police Department (APD) has announced the arrest of Aldair J Albiter-Casas in connection with a fatal crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian. The incident occurred on Sunday, November 10, 2024, at approximately 6:29 p.m. The pedestrian, identified as Kyla Walker, was pronounced dead at the scene. According to APD, the vehicle involved did not stop and left the area.

Albiter-Casas has been charged with Collision Involving Death and is currently held at Travis County Jail.

APD's Vehicular Homicide Unit is seeking public assistance for any additional information regarding this case. Tips can be submitted anonymously through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program by visiting austincrimestoppers.org or calling 512-472-8477.

The crash took place at East Stassney Lane and Teri Road. It marked Austin’s 76th fatal crash of 2024, resulting in 81 fatalities. This figure is slightly lower than that of the previous year on the same date when there were 77 fatal crashes resulting in 80 fatalities.

The investigation into this incident continues as authorities gather more information about the circumstances surrounding the crash.
