Austin-Travis County has recorded its first new mpox (monkeypox) case since February of this year. Austin Public Health (APH) is encouraging at-risk individuals to get vaccinated and follow precautions to protect themselves and others from the spread of this virus.

3700 block of Werner AvenueOn Saturday, March 18, 2023, at approximately 5:44 a.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a call reporting an Auto Theft in the 3700 block of Werner Avenue. A preliminary investigation revealed that two suspects broke into a Kia Soul and drove away with the vehicle.

APD Detectives Search for a Suspect Vehicle in Connection to a Hit and Run Crash

On Monday, May 15, 2023, at approximately 12:09 a.m., Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services responded to a pickup truck and pedestrian crash in the 9000 block of N IH 35 SVRD SB. A preliminary investigation revealed that the pedestrian was hit by a pickup truck traveling south on the service road. The driver left the scene and did not stop or call 911. The victim was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries in critical condition.

Memorial Day Weekend Personal Watercraft Ban on Lake Austin

The Austin Police Department (APD) Lake Patrol Unit will be enforcing the City Ordnance that prohibits the use and operation of personal watercraft, wet bikes, motorized surfboards, and similar devices (designed to be operated by a person sitting, standing, or kneeling on the vessel), on Lake Austin. This ban will go into effect beginning at sunset on Friday, May 26, 2023, and ending on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at sunrise, as outlined in Ordinance 8-5-81. Non-motorized devices such as kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards can still be used along with watercraft designed for the conventional manner of sitting or standing in the vessel.

On Monday, May 22, 2023, at approximately 9:05 p.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a shooting at a Dairy Queen in the 9300 block of IH 35 SB. The caller stated he shot a man dating his child's mother, Efrain Jaimes, after Jaimes attacked him. Officers at the scene located the caller, who cooperated with the investigation.
