U.S. Congressman Michael McCaul (R-Texas), chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, expressed his support for the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2024. In a statement, he highlighted the importance of providing for the nation's servicemembers and their families, as well as strengthening the U.S. military.

McCaul emphasized the significance of the NDAA in honoring and supporting the country's heroes. He stated, "Our servicemembers and their families deserve the very best our nation can offer, and this year's NDAA takes crucial steps to honor and provide for these heroes." He also underscored the importance of preventing liberal ideology from infiltrating the military, bolstering nuclear stockpiles, and securing the southern border as the last line of defense.

As the chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee, McCaul played a vital role in securing the inclusion of bipartisan provisions in the NDAA. One of these provisions aims to streamline the presidential permitting process for building gateway bridges between Texas and Mexico. McCaul stated, "This expansion of critical infrastructure will strengthen international commerce, lowering the cost of goods for American families."

McCaul also expressed his satisfaction with the inclusion of language in the NDAA that strengthens partnerships between the Department of Defense (DoD) and academic institutions like Texas A&M. This collaboration focuses on hypersonic weapons research and development, an area where China and Russia have made significant advancements. McCaul commended Texas A&M's expertise in hypersonics, stating, "I am confident the research conducted there will drive American leadership and help advance these critical capabilities."

Furthermore, McCaul voiced his support for several conservative victories within the NDAA. These victories include a 5.2 percent pay increase for troops, the largest in over 20 years, and the establishment of a Parents' Bill of Rights to ensure parents of children in DoD schools have the right to meet with teachers and review curriculum. McCaul also highlighted the protection and reinstatement of servicemembers discharged due to their refusal of the COVID-19 vaccine, as well as the support for law enforcement operations at the border and efforts to combat the fentanyl crisis.

The NDAA also addresses international concerns, with provisions that defend Israel in its time of need and work to track and prevent Chinese Communist Party (CCP) espionage. Additionally, the bill aims to bolster U.S. military readiness by strengthening the defense industrial base.

Congressman McCaul's support for the NDAA demonstrates his commitment to the well-being of servicemembers and the strength of the U.S. military. The bill's provisions not only provide crucial support for the troops but also address various national security and economic concerns. As the NDAA moves forward, it is expected to have a significant impact on the defense and security landscape of the United States.
