The City of Austin's Small and Minority Business Resources Department has announced the adoption of quarterly aspirational goals for its Minority-Owned and Woman-Owned Business Enterprise (MBE/WBE) Procurement Program. According to a recent update on March 29, 2024, the department revealed that the aspirational goals for the first quarter of FY 2024 have been set at 7.28% for MBE firms and 2.13% for WBE firms.
In line with this initiative, the department emphasized its commitment to collaboration with the City of Austin's Financial Services Department (FSD) to enhance the Annual Procurement Forecast. The City of Austin's SMBR staff stated, "SMBR will continue to work with the FSD to enhance the Annual Procurement Forecast by including additional data that will aid in the development of future aspirational goals."
Looking ahead, SMBR staff will provide updates on the progress of the third and fourth quarters of Aspirational Goals. The next phase involves close collaboration with the FSD and various City departments to determine the release dates and commodity codes/scopes of work for procurements expected in the upcoming quarters.
This strategic move by the City of Austin's SMBR underscores its ongoing efforts to support and promote Minority-Owned and Woman-Owned businesses within the local procurement landscape.
