On Thursday, July 18, 2024, at approximately 2:01 a.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to an urgent call in the 2000 block of Burton Drive. The caller stated someone had tried to kill his friend. Officers and EMS arrived on scene and located the body of a male inside the residence who was identified as Jose Ramon Lizarraga Boca Negra, a Hispanic male born on March 28, 1985. He had an apparent gunshot wound and was pronounced deceased on scene.
Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Specialists responded to process the scene and interview witnesses. The investigation revealed that Jose had been shot inside his residence, after which the suspect fled the area.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the Austin Police Department at 512-974-TIPS. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program by visiting austincrimestoppers.org or by calling 512-472-8477. A reward up to $1,000 may be available for any information leading to an arrest.
This case is being investigated as Austin's 34th homicide of 2024.
