On October 26, 2024, at around 11:21 p.m., a tragic incident occurred in the 4500 block of S IH 35 SVRD NB. The Austin Police Department (APD) responded to a crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian. The pedestrian, who remains unidentified, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver involved in the accident was unharmed and is cooperating with authorities.
This incident marks Austin's 73rd fatal crash for the year 2024, bringing the total number of fatalities to 78. Comparatively, on the same date in 2023, there were 74 fatal crashes resulting in 77 deaths.
