Austin police seek help identifying suspect vehicle in fatal hit-and-run

On November 3, 2024, a fatal crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian occurred at approximately 7:35 p.m. in the 600 Block of W Ben White SVRD EB. The Austin Police Department's Vehicular Homicide Unit is seeking public assistance to identify the suspect vehicle involved in the incident.

The victim, identified as Angela Cantu, was transported to the hospital but was later pronounced deceased. According to reports, the driver left the scene after exiting a parking lot onto South 1st Street and heading east on Ben White SVRD.

This crash marks Austin's 75th fatal crash of the year, with a total of 80 fatalities. Comparatively, by this date in 2023, there had been 76 fatal crashes resulting in 79 fatalities.

Authorities urge anyone with information to contact APD's Vehicular Homicide unit at 512-974-8111. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program at austincrimestoppers.org or by calling 512-472-8477. A reward of up to $1,000 may be available for information leading to an arrest.
