On November 21, 2024, at approximately 8:43 p.m., officers from the Austin Police Department (APD) responded to a traffic accident in the 2700 block of Barton Springs Road. The collision involved a van and a sedan. The driver of the van was transported to Dell Seton Medical Center but was pronounced deceased shortly after arrival. Meanwhile, the driver and a passenger in the sedan were taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
This crash is under investigation as Austin's 79th fatal accident of the year, bringing the total number of fatalities to 84 for 2024. On the same date in 2023, there had been 79 fatal crashes resulting in 82 fatalities.
