Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) has made significant strides in its expansion efforts throughout 2024, with several projects under the Journey With AUS program. This initiative aims to transform the airport into a modern travel hub for Austin and Central Texas.

One of the notable achievements this year was securing $33.27 million in federal funding from the Federal Aviation Administration's Airport Terminal Program, part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. This funding is allocated for the design and construction of Concourse B, which will feature at least 20 new gates and expanded passenger amenities. The concourse is expected to open by 2030.

The West Infill Project, a key component of the Journey With AUS program, broke ground in April 2024. This expansion will add 75,000 square feet over four levels to the terminal space and increase TSA Checkpoint 3 from two lanes to six or eight lanes upon completion in early 2026. Additionally, a new premium lounge will be introduced.

Progress on the West Gate Expansion project includes the construction of passenger boarding bridges and erecting the first steel beam in July 2024. The project anticipates reaching substantial completion by spring 2026 after applying the building's exterior skin.

New midfield taxiways are also under construction as part of preparations for Concourse B. These taxiways will enhance airfield efficiency by connecting the east and west sides of the airfield.

Looking forward to 2025, AUS plans to continue its expansion efforts with projects such as Atrium Infill, Central Utility Plant, and West Garage developments. The airport remains committed to improving passenger experience while accommodating increased traffic.
