Police seek public help in aggravated assault case at Republic Square Park

On November 16, 2024, at approximately 5:25 p.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a call regarding an incident at Republic Square Park located at 422 Guadalupe Street. The report involved a suspect armed with a knife threatening a man working in the area.

The victim, who was using a leaf blower as part of his job duties, suffered a laceration on the left side of his face after being attacked by an unknown individual. The suspect was described as a black male around six feet tall, wearing a white shirt and black pants.

Investigators have traced the suspect's movements before the assault. It was determined that he boarded a Capital Metro Bus near Oak Springs Drive and Ridgeline before arriving at the park. Images of the suspect have been obtained by investigators.

Authorities are seeking assistance from the public to identify and locate the suspect. Anyone with information is urged to contact APD's Aggravated Assault unit at 512-974-5245. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program by visiting austincrimestoppers.org or calling 512-472-8477. A reward of up to $1,000 may be offered for information leading to an arrest.
