Austin police investigate pedestrian death on Rutland Drive

On December 6, 2024, at approximately 3:50 a.m., officers from the Austin Police Department (APD) responded to a crash involving a single vehicle and a pedestrian in the 1400 block of Rutland Drive. The pedestrian, an unidentified female, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver involved remained on site, cooperated with authorities, and showed no signs of impairment.

This incident marks Austin's 83rd fatal crash of the year, resulting in 88 fatalities. In comparison, by this date in 2023, there had been 82 fatal crashes leading to 85 deaths.

The investigation into this crash is ongoing. Authorities caution that details may change as more information becomes available.

The APD encourages anyone with information about the incident to contact their Vehicular Homicide unit at 512-974-8111. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program by visiting austincrimestoppers.org or calling 512-472-8477. A reward of up to $1,000 may be offered for information leading to an arrest.
