On December 13, 2024, the Austin Police Department (APD) executed a multi-division operation targeting suspects involved in jugging-style crimes. The operation included members from the Robbery Unit, Organized Crime Division, SWAT, North Metro Tactical Unit, and Crime Analysis Unit. Utilizing data from the Crime Analysis Unit, officers identified locations frequently targeted by jugging suspects.

Within ten minutes of arriving at a bank parking lot, undercover officers noticed a Toyota pickup truck that matched the description of vehicles used in past jugging incidents. The vehicle left the bank following another car believed to be a potential victim. Both vehicles later stopped at 11300 North Lamar Boulevard.

The suspect parked next to the victim's car. After the victim moved away to assist a co-worker, one suspect exited the Toyota and unlawfully entered the victim's vehicle, taking an envelope in plain view. Officers then conducted a traffic stop.

Brandon Lee Wright and Marquise Keyon Collins were arrested at the scene. They were found with an envelope containing $8,000 in cash along with the victim’s personal bank card and ID card. Both suspects face charges of Felony Theft due to the amount stolen. The stolen money was returned to its rightful owner.

The APD issued a reminder for community members to exercise caution when withdrawing or carrying large sums of cash, particularly during holiday periods. Citizens are advised not to leave cash unattended in vehicles or avoid carrying large amounts altogether.

In addressing potential criminals, APD emphasized their commitment to investigating jugging-style crimes thoroughly: "APD will not tolerate people taking advantage of our citizens, especially during the holidays, and anyone suspected of these crimes will be arrested and referred for prosecution."
