On December 16, 2024, at approximately 6:29 a.m., the Austin Police Department (APD) responded to a fatal collision involving a motor vehicle and a pedestrian in the 8200 block of East Ben White Boulevard EB. The pedestrian, an unidentified male, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver involved remained on-site, was uninjured, and is cooperating with authorities.
This incident marks Austin's 90th fatal crash of the year, bringing the total number of fatalities to 96. Comparatively, by this date in 2023, there had been 87 fatal crashes resulting in 90 deaths.
The APD notes that these details stem from an initial assessment and that further investigation is ongoing. As such, information regarding the fatality may be subject to change.
