Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) is preparing for the holiday travel season, anticipating approximately 30,000 departing passengers on peak days—December 20, 22, and 23. While these numbers are not record-breaking, the airport advises travelers to plan ahead for a smooth journey.

Travelers are encouraged to check real-time traffic updates at DriveTexas.org or use CapMetro Route 20 for easy access to the airport. Recommended arrival times are set at 2.5 hours before domestic flights and three hours before international flights. Extra time should be added if checking luggage or returning rental cars.

To avoid delays at security checkpoints, AUS reminds passengers of TSA guidelines: carry-on liquids must be 3.4 ounces or less, firearms are prohibited in carry-ons, and gifts should remain unwrapped until after security screening. For convenience, a free gift-wrapping station is available through December 25 on the concourse.

The main Barbara Jordan Terminal features three TSA security checkpoints with expanded lanes and increased screening capacity due to recent AUS-TSA collaborations. Further expansions are planned with projects opening in 2026.

Passengers flying Allegiant or Frontier will depart from the South Terminal located at 10000 Logistics Lane. Shuttle services are available; however, parking directly at the terminal is recommended to save time.

AUS emphasizes planning ahead and packing smartly during this busy season. "From all of us at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport," they state, "we wish you a safe, joyful, and holly-jolly journey."
