On January 10, 2025, a fatal single-vehicle crash occurred in the 11800 block of Research Boulevard SVRD NB. The Austin Police Department (APD) reported that officers responded to the scene at approximately 12:58 a.m. The driver involved in the crash was transported to a local hospital but was pronounced deceased shortly after arrival.
The deceased has been identified as Anthony David Jones, a Black male born on August 17, 1988. This incident marks Austin's first fatal crash of the year, resulting in one fatality. A similar incident occurred on the same date in 2024, which also resulted in one death.
According to APD, "These statements are from the initial assessment of the fatal crash, and the investigation is still pending." They also noted that "Fatality information may change" as more details emerge.
