The Austin Parks and Recreation Department is set to host a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the first phase of Brownie Neighborhood Park on Saturday, February 22, at 10 a.m. The event will take place at 10000 Brownie Dr., and attendees are advised to dress comfortably as it is an outdoor event.
Brownie Neighborhood Park spans approximately 7.8 acres in the North Lamar Neighborhood. In 2014, around five additional acres were acquired to expand the park's area.
The park now features several new amenities including a picnic pavilion, a loop walking trail, solar security lighting, and a playground with a nature play area. Additionally, there is a new asphalt parking lot with ADA spaces and a turnaround. Boulders salvaged from the site have been incorporated throughout the park.
The design of the park takes into account its proximity to a nearby creek and offers green infrastructure opportunities in collaboration with Austin’s Watershed Protection Department. Acknowledgments go to the North Lamar/Georgian Acres Neighborhood team for their contributions.
Funding for this project came from various sources: City Bond Funding from 2018 Parkland Improvements, Private Partner Funding via Austin Parks Foundation Board Designated Funds, an Urban Forestry Grant through the City's Development Services Department, and Parkland Dedication Funds.
