The Susanna Dickinson Museum has announced a new exhibit titled "Under Our Lone Star Sky," which explores the enduring challenges faced by women in Texas, both historically and in contemporary times. The exhibit will open with an after-hours event on Thursday, February 13, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., featuring private tours, refreshments, and free admission.
"Under Our Lone Star Sky" examines issues such as homelessness, domestic violence, and systemic inequities while celebrating the resilience of women throughout early Texas history. It highlights how many current struggles, including economic pressures from expensive housing and poorly paid jobs with limited institutional support, have been recurring themes for women in Texas.
The exhibit is enhanced through collaboration with Art From the Streets, a nonprofit organization supporting unhoused artists in Austin. Original print artwork by local artists experiencing homelessness will be featured to showcase their talent and aid their journey toward stability.
The exhibition will run through June 2025 with free admission. More information can be found at susannadickinsonmuseum.org.
