The Austin Parks and Recreation Department is set to host a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Davis-White Northeast Neighborhood Park on Sunday, February 16, at 1:00 p.m. The event will take place at 6705 Crystalbrook Dr. Attendees are advised to dress comfortably as it is an outdoor park event.
The playscape replacement project at Davis-White Neighborhood Park involved several upgrades. These include the replacement of the playscape designed for children aged 5-to-12, new swings, an additional arch swing with a saucer-style swing set, ADA-compliant benches, and an interpretive marker.
Davis-White Northeast Neighborhood Park covers nearly 20 acres and was renamed in 2007 to honor Captain Willie Ray Davis and Captain Louie White. These individuals were significant figures in Austin's history as they were the first African Americans appointed to leadership roles in the City of Austin Fire and Police Departments.
Community members contributed to identifying values and priorities for the improvements through various pop-ups and surveys organized by the department. Funding for this project came from municipal bonds designated for essential public projects, along with contributions from Austin Parks Foundation and Spurs Give.
