WASHINGTON — Today, U.S. Congressman Michael McCaul (R-Texas) confronted Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas on his alleged failures to enforce the nation's immigration laws. During the exchange, McCaul accused Mayorkas of violating his oath and neglecting his responsibilities.

McCaul criticized Mayorkas for his approach to enforcing the Immigration and Nationality Act, emphasizing the mandatory language of the law. He pointed out that Mayorkas instructed border patrol agents not to consider prior criminal conduct when taking enforcement action, potentially leading to the release of dangerous criminals into communities.

The congressman highlighted the severity of the issue by mentioning the types of criminals included in the category of aggravated felons. McCaul also referenced a Supreme Court case where the question of impeachment for defying laws passed by Congress was raised.

In a strong statement, McCaul expressed his belief that Mayorkas had defied the law, Congressional intent, and the best interest of the American people, ultimately making the country a more dangerous place. He concluded by referencing a historical quote about neglecting responsibilities leading to an impeachable offense, suggesting that Mayorkas had neglected his duties across various domains, including air, land, and sea, thereby damaging the nation's fabric.
