WASHINGTON — Today, U.S. Congressman Michael McCaul (R-Texas) expressed his discontent with the Senate's decision to dismiss the articles of impeachment against Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. McCaul, who was a House impeachment manager in Mayorkas' trial, and chairman emeritus of the House Homeland Security Committee, voiced his concerns regarding the Senate Democrats' vote.
"Under Secretary Mayorkas’ watch, approximately 9 million people have illegally crossed the border — including more than 300 people on the terror watch list — and more than 200,000 young Americans have died from fentanyl poisoning,” stated Rep. McCaul. He criticized the Senate's choice, saying, “Yet Chuck Schumer’s Senate voted to let him off the hook, refusing to hear a single argument in an impeachment trial. Today will go down in history as the day Senate Democrats abandoned their constitutional responsibility, defied centuries of historical precedent, and failed the American people.”
Yesterday, McCaul, along with other impeachment managers, presented the articles of impeachment against Secretary Mayorkas to the United States Senate. Today, the Senate decided to dismiss these articles, leading to McCaul's strong disapproval of the outcome.
