The City of Austin's Office of Arts, Culture, Music, and Entertainment (ACME), in cooperation with the Austin Convention Center, has worked with artists to move and maintain four legacy art installations that were housed in the Convention Center and approved for deaccession. Through collaboration with artists, their families, the Arts Commission, and various stakeholders, the City reached agreements with three of the four artists. The aim is to continue to enrich the lives of both Austinites and visitors with these artworks.
"ACME is a strong advocate for the preservation of artwork," said Angela Means, Director of the Office of Arts, Culture, Music, and Entertainment. "We recognize that meaningful partnerships are essential to meeting the ever-evolving needs of our creative community and the public. As we look to Austin’s cultural landscape, we will continue to explore innovative solutions and strategic collaborations that reflect our city’s values."
ACME will assess the Art in Public Places (AIPP) program, ensuring its relevance and alignment with the City’s cultural and economic objectives. This assessment will consider community feedback, national best practices, and the diverse needs of Austin's art community.
“We seek to create an inclusive, thriving ecosystem where art, culture, music, and entertainment continue to shape and define Austin’s identity,” Means stated.
